Different Rooms [Project Anywhere]

Have you checked out Wave Farm? Residencies, artist experiments with broadcast media, a study centre, Transmission Arts and Experimental Sound programming around the clock, a Media Arts Grants program – it’s pretty cool.

May 19 we are on at 11:00am Eastern US time with our monthly program Itinerant Mind. This month is a mix titled “Different Rooms”.

Check out the Standing Wave Radio Scheduling for Saturday here and the WGXC Schedule here.

differentrooms

This month’s Itinerant Mind draws on and highlights the different facets of our research and practice bringing together our Project Anywhere program with spoken word pieces from London about London, and field recording from China and Sydney, telematic improvisation, a more refined version of the composition Restless (we played a very raw telematic version last month), and some rhythmic pieces we have begun working on.

You can listen back  to the broadcast here…

Flux_Chongqing [Project Anywhere]

Flux is a pop up exhibition (and app) organised by a group of artists from Sydney collaborating in mad.lab. This exhibition is part of a proposed initiative which creates a platform for citizens to transform abandoned spaces within the city for creative uses.

This exhibition models, showcases and documents the Flux concept as an event that could occur within Chongqing’s abandoned spaces.

This project brings together contributions from artists and designers from Sydney, Chongqing, and the UK. mad.lab also links to our ongoing project “The Grid” for Project Anywhere in that it is situated in the Chinese megacity Chongqing.

Loc Nguyen (Video Work) 视频工作
Loc Nguyen is a media artist from Sydney who is interested in the relationship
between human bodies and machines. His video-sound installations explore the queer
cyborg body and the grotesque yet sexual relationship the organic has with the
synthetic.

Aston Creus (Mixed Media) 混合介质
Aston Creus is an emerging studio artist based between Sydney and Tokyo. His
practice often involves both physical and digital sculptural forms, and the
appropriation of manufacturing processes on an intimate scale. The works are
informed by the intense pressure and collapse created by commercialisation.

Restless [Telematic videomix]

This mix of the Morrad+McArthur composition Restless was recorded live over the internet and aired on Wave Farm radio Saturday April 18 2018. The video was cut for our contribution to a symposium of artistic process and practice at Bath Spa University. The symposium is staged simultaneously with the exhibition Documents, Alternatives (#3) at BSAD gallery at Bath Spa University, which is open to the public 20th April – 1st May 2018. The exhibition and symposium are part of the Alternative Document, a project by Dr. Angela Bartram, Associate Professor and Head of Arts Research, at University of Derby.

A Lack of Chairs

A Lack of Chairs
Documents, Alternatives
BSAD, 2018

This video is based on a chance encounter of three sonic assemblages; each of these entities seeks continuity but originates from a disparate place. Originally, the sonic linked themselves together through time, meeting each other through random actions, some of which only will only occur once. These entities have been sourced and gathered from various situations located from London to Sydney, and in this incarnation, are meeting together in a middle ground; the situated context of the video. This ‘meeting’ is a reflection on the working methods of both practitioners.

This video is part of the Documents, Alternatives #3 exhibition curated by Ang Bartram at B-Side Gallery (Bath Spa University): 20 April-11 May 2018.

For more information about this work and the exhibition and symposium check out our previous post on this event.
